This gives some idea of the contrast between traffic and things like advertising between 1993 and 1999. I'd guess that the number of cars on the road doubled from 1999 to 2004. (They increased about 20 per cent between 2003 and 2004, so a doubling seems about right.) So this doesn't really give you an idea of what traffic is like in Ulaanbaatar today.

This was taken about a block east of Sühbaatar Square. The area has changed again since this shot was taken - there are several new buildings in the area. The building near the Raffles billboard is the Turkish embassy. The big beige one past it is the Central Post Office. (The Hungarian embassy is in between the two.)
