This is an old lama from Hamryn Hiid, who lived outside of Sainshand, in the Gov'. A friend and I went down to visit a museum in Sainshand in the summer of 1999, and were treated to a tour of the nearby monastery, as well as other sites linked to religion and political repression. The lama had had relatives who were repressed in the 1930s, so we did an interview with him. Afterwards, when we asked if we could take his picture, he got out his more formal robes, and posed for us. Hopefully the copy of this photo that I sent him reached him. Note the religious icons and pictures behind him.
