Another shot of the Flaming Cliffs. In the middle of the frame, in the distance (just past the outcropping of rock in the middle) you can make out a smudge that is the saxaul forest.
You can make out some green in and among the Flaming Cliffs. This is what most of the gobi is like - scrubland with some shrubs, flowers and other plants.
The Flaming Cliffs used to be quite rich in bits and pieces of dinosaur fossils just lying on the surface, but it has largely been picked clean by tourists looking for illegal souvenirs
