A yangir, or mountain goat. This one is in a valley in the Gobi, in the summer of 2006. As you can see, it is doing what mountain goats do best - climb unconcernedly around rather steep, rocky places. This one is also studying (bemusedly, it seemed) the anthropologist who was trying to scramble up the slope to get a better photo. Although this one is in the gobi, they are found throughout much of Mongolia. There is, as I recall, a large statue of one outside of Tsetserleg, the capital of Arhangai aimag.
